Before you go

A short checklist so the trip feels easy — especially helpful for first-time u-pick visits in Virginia.

  • Bring closed-toe shoes, sun protection, water, and containers unless the farm supplies them.
  • Call or check the website for today’s picking conditions — mud, rain, and sold-out fields are common.
  • Wear clothes you don’t mind getting stained; berry juice and field mud travel home with you.
  • Cash still helps at smaller stands even when cards are accepted.

“From the moment our car club pulled in Amy (manager) and her team were ready for us. Amy met us outside went through the days offerings of drinks and food which were all amazing, including the cider doughnuts. Amy was very attentive, personable and engaging. Our group played chicken poop bingo, a first for all of us. It added to the experience. The grounds were well manicured, with a large patio overlooking a pond. I’d highly recommend stopping by for some good drinks, friendly staff and an enjoyable day.”

“We had a super fun experience with our one-year-old! The baby goats were absolutely adorable and were the highlight of our visit. The park was also a great place to walk around and enjoy the day. I definitely recommend visiting on a nice, sunny day. If you prefer a quieter experience, it may be worth calling ahead to ask whether any field trips are scheduled during your visit, as it can get quite crowded when school groups are there. Overall, we had a wonderful time and would definitely recommend it!”

“Our car club, Crossfires of Maryland, had a fantastic visit at Henway Cidery. Amy was a fantastic host, welcoming us and treating us extremely well. The ciders, apple cider donuts, food and staff were fantastic. Our group all agreed, it was a great place with fantastic people.”

“Wonderful! You can never go wrong with a school field trip to GCF! The children enjoyed their experience and the staff was super friendly and helpful. Ms. Grace kept the children engaged during their compost tour with a friendly disposition. Thank you.”

“Beautiful farm! Dog friendly and very kid friendly! They have so many things for kids to do! Lots of farm animals too! We went for the tulips and it was so pretty and so much fun! We even went over and had hard cider and nachos.”

“We recently visited Country Farms with our family, and it turned out to be a fantastic experience. The location is very family-friendly, with plenty of activities and play areas designed specifically for children. It made it easy to keep our toddler entertained and engaged throughout the visit. One of the highlights for us was the chance to see the farm animals up close. Our toddler absolutely loved it, and it was great to see how interactive and accessible everything was. A fun surprise was spotting a peacock on the property, which added a unique and memorable touch to the visit. The overall atmosphere was relaxed and enjoyable, making it a great outing for families looking to spend quality time together outdoors. There were a lot of bees around, which might concern some visitors, but they didn’t bother us at all and didn’t interfere with our experience. All in all, we had a great time and would definitely recommend this place to families with young kids. It’s a wonderful spot for a casual, fun-filled day, and we’ll certainly be coming back again.”

“We’ve been to GCF more times than we can count as it’s one of our favorite spots! We always spend a couple hours there easily — they have goats to feed, climbing every single play structure, big orange bouncy things, fishing in the pond (they have catch and release), or going for a hay ride to pick tulips in spring then grabbing pizza and drinks at Henway’s (they have chicken bingo… 🙃) On our last trip, we caught the piglet races — absolutely adorable — and watching adults wipe out on the big slide at the top of the hill was very entertaining!”

“As a family who has been coming for the past 4 years, our recent visit was pretty disappointing. The staff has always been amazing and this still rings true today. They are so welcoming and helpful! Besides the sunflower picking which is absolutely wonderful, The rest of the farm carries a sadness in the air that is a reflection of the care and maintenance to the outside attractions. It is very run down and it’s not hard to see the neglect or over use of many things everywhere you look. The atmosphere felt sad. The pond. Please don’t fish in it right now. It is overgrown with what looks to be a toxic algal and whatever else but the fish are dying in it. There were over 15+ floating dead fish and it smells horrific. There is no hand sanitizer in any of the dispensaries so making trips back and forth to the bathroom will be necessary. Mini-Golf, corn pit, checkers… areas that use to have so much life that even adults could enjoy are just sad. The farm use to have this breeze of fun and wanting to be a part of every bit of it but unfortunately we no longer feel that way. I hope the farm can turn things around and show the property a little more attention and bring back its true spirit. I don’t believe the prices for tickets reflect the experience you receive anymore.”
