Before you go

A short checklist so the trip feels easy — especially helpful for first-time u-pick visits in Missouri.

  • Bring closed-toe shoes, sun protection, water, and containers unless the farm supplies them.
  • Call or check the website for today’s picking conditions — mud, rain, and sold-out fields are common.
  • Wear clothes you don’t mind getting stained; berry juice and field mud travel home with you.
  • Cash still helps at smaller stands even when cards are accepted.

“A magical place to pick your own gigantic blackberries, peaches, tomatoes, apples... (They also have produce available ready to go). Prices are extremely reasonable and now that we know of this place, we will choose it over the ever popular Eckerts any day. The customer service here cannot be beat. The entire experience was amazing and the kids area was perfect for a toddler.”

“We had a blast! Perfect for our 2 year old. Outstanding customer service. Everyone was so kind and most people were masked and keeping their distance. Yes- the playground is closed but that’s for safety because - duh, covid. We picked apples and pumpkins and loved it. We also enjoyed the tractor ride around the grounds! So fun and thoughtful and unexpected.”

“Very cute and reasonable prices for Apple picking and pumpkin picking! They offer hay rides as well! All of the staff has been so nice every year we come! Sad we came kinda late in the season and missed their apple butter looking forward to next year! Pics are from last year and this year!!!”

“We took our granddaughter to get some pumpkins and play in the play area. We had so much fun and got some great looking pumpkins. The staff was super nice and helpful. Definitely recommend this place.”

“Very small but still fun it's a great place to go and then go to downtown St Charles prices were fair and staff was friendly”

“Family fun . Yummy apples. Possibly their last year it's for sale ....sad to hear they been there 20yrs.”

“First visit to Herman's Farm October 26. We were interested in picking apples. Obviously, we arrived late in apple picking season, as there were many drop apples on the ground and few left on the trees. There was no admission fees. Produce sized bags were purchased for $10 each. Definitely, recommend planning your apple picking outing for earlier in the season. We did bring a mobility impaired family member and planned to use his wheelchair. After assessing the situation, a farm is not ideal for the narrow wheels of a wheelchair. The parking area was a level, graded, soil surface, but the grassy path to the orchard was natural with uneven dips and rises. And the orchard, well, was working soil with holes and ridges as one would expect in an agricultural setting. There was a small pumpkin patch. Other activities for families were available. There was even a child's birthday party happening while we were there. We definitely plan to return next year for apple picking. It is a smaller, pick-your-own farm than some other farms in the area. This family farm was exactly what we were looking for.”

“I really wanted to love the peaches here because they look great and the price can't be beat. Unfortunately, most of the ones we picked (25+ pounds worth) were not sweet. I think they are fine for canning, since sugar is added, but as I was going through them to process, most were not worth eating plain- good "peach" flavor, but tart (even though they were ripe). On a positive note, skins came right off easily with blanching, pits were cling free, there were very minimal pest issues (worms), and the peaches themselves have beautiful color. We also picked some tomatoes while at the farm. I will say that the shimmer tomatoes are ridiculously delicious! They are probably one of the best varieties I have ever had- and that is coming from someone who has grown and canned various tomatoes for years.”
