Before you go
A short checklist so the trip feels easy — especially helpful for first-time u-pick visits in Illinois.
- Bring closed-toe shoes, sun protection, water, and containers unless the farm supplies them.
- Call or check the website for today’s picking conditions — mud, rain, and sold-out fields are common.
- Wear clothes you don’t mind getting stained; berry juice and field mud travel home with you.
- Cash still helps at smaller stands even when cards are accepted.

“Beautiful orchard and setting, great baked goods and cider. It doesn’t have a lot of gimmicky attractions but for me, I’m all about the apples. Donuts here come to you warm and the apple pie is delicious. There’s a cute little petting zoo as well. The barn is beautiful and has a lot of fun souvenirs. I do the u-pick every year, they give a helpful overview of which apples are best for eating, baking, etc.”

“The best place to go for Apple Cider donuts. Free to get in. You can feed the animals & can pick your own raspberries and apples. They have delicious caramel apples. My favorite. Also great cider, they've got pumpkins & usually have a different food truck each weekend. They've got pies, popcorn - candles and local artists too.”

“Lovely u-pick orchard that is well worth the drive. Great selection of apples and berries. All the staff was super nice and friendly. Was surprised to see they also sell frozen beef! Also, bring dimes so you can feed the animals!”

“Overall: We can't wait to go back to Honey Hill in the future to pick more delicious apples! The good: TONS of apples/trees, which is great considering how many people go to orchards these days. There was plenty of parking and the COVID precautions were in full swing, which was comforting. Even at the beginning of October, they still had 4 varieties of apples to choose from, compared to only 1-2 with their competitors. The orchard is large so that there's plenty of space, and pumpkins to choose from as well if that floats your boat. The shop has plenty to choose from and of course there's a bakery with warm goodies. To top it off, there is a (apparently rotating) food truck if you need some fuel prior to picking. Amazing chicken fingers! The not-so-good: The prices are higher than we would've liked. Not only from the apple-picking perspective, but also in terms of the store goods and food available to eat at the orchard.”

“We honestly just loved this place! Now it’s not all fancy, not much on frills. They do have a lovely free tiny petting zoo, hay maze play area plus, great apples, doughnuts and awesome cider all for a very reasonable price, best part you buy the bag $8 or upgrade, kids 2 & under free but no bag for picking. We spent $25 for the day left happy and very full!!! It was such a beautiful day out to top it off! Always a great day at Honey Hill Orchard, regular u-pick season opens , Sept. 10!”

“Not a lot of variety of apples available. Donuts were delicious! Cider was very good. The Sunday we want, there was a ton of mud and almost got stuck in the parking lot. Not much else for kids to do, unlike JonnaMac, but that all costs extra.”
