Before you go

A short checklist so the trip feels easy — especially helpful for first-time u-pick visits in Illinois.

  • Bring closed-toe shoes, sun protection, water, and containers unless the farm supplies them.
  • Call or check the website for today’s picking conditions — mud, rain, and sold-out fields are common.
  • Arrive earlier in the day for cooler weather and better selection during peak weekends.
  • Cash still helps at smaller stands even when cards are accepted.

“While camping at a nearby State Park, I decided to try to find a nearby orchard to get some seasonal apples and other produce. I am so pleased that my search brought me to the Jeffries Orchard. As I pulled into the parking lot of the orchard, I was immediately taken back to my childhood, visiting the family-owned orchard near my hometown. The first thing I noticed was the absence of pretentiousness and artificial trappings of the season. Then, as I entered the cozy store, I was welcomed by both of the people working in the customer area. The store had a good selection of seasonal produce and other locally made products. Most importantly, however, their apple selection was great. The lady working at the register was very helpful, answering my couple questions and making a couple recommendations. I decided to get a mixed half-peck of "eating apples," (as opposed to cooking apples). All three of the types of apples I picked up were excellent. The most interesting of the apples was a type they called a Russet. I have never run into it in any of the orchards I have visited in the past. It is crisp and has a bold sweet-and-tart flavor that put a real smile on my face. The shopping experience and resulting produce I received were absolutely fantastic. The friendly, helpful staff were very attentive without being intrusive. If you are in the Springfield area, do yourself a favor and checkout Jeffries Orchard. You will not be sorry.”

“This is a marvelous fresh grown market. The staff are very helpful, as are the recipe books when available. There are special jars of various products available (only delicious). The shopping experience is filled with fruit smells...even the potatoes drift on the air to your nose.Green beans, peaches, onions, and scrumptious 🌽 corn. A restful place togather fresh farm products. Terrific place! You'll love it.”

“Amazing cider! Hot, cold, or slushy! Pumpkins are well priced and mums are beautiful!! And the people are super helpful and nice! Their vegetables are also something to go for! Hands down the best cider I've ever had.”

“We are very happy this business is here. Produce was amazing. Traveled quite some distance to get there but worth it. The White Peachs were superb. Definitely worth a return trip sometime time soon. Thank you 😊”

“Okay I go to this place every year. oh the the year they didn't have apple cider it broke my heart ,no fault of the farmers of course. but this year is not that year and let me assure you this cider is good.”
