A short checklist so the trip feels easy — especially helpful for first-time u-pick visits in New York.
- Bring closed-toe shoes, sun protection, water, and containers unless the farm supplies them.
- Call or check the website for today’s picking conditions — mud, rain, and sold-out fields are common.
- Arrive earlier in the day for cooler weather and better selection during peak weekends.
- Payment notes on file: Mastercard. Cash still helps at smaller stands.

“This is my go-to place to pick apples in the fall and as a bonus, they have amazing pies, free hayride and a small petting zoo that my daughter absolutely adores!!! 🐄🐐🐖🐕 Kristy's barn has the best pies around.. they also have a free hayride daily that takes your throughout the extensive property of Kristy's barn... About an hour and a half all together... After about 45 minutes on the hayride, you get dropped off at Kristy's Barns little petting zoo.. where you can get food to feed the animals for cheap!! Last year there were goats & sheep available to feed & pet! I believe that Kristy's Barn either has reopened or their 2021 season; if not, they will DEFINITELY be open by the beginning of June!!”

“We stopped in to get some U-pick apples. They also have pumpkins, and stuff for the kids to do. The apple selection is huge for a small place. And they had Cortlands and Cripsin which are excellent for pies. Staff was top notch and the place is well kept. Make sure you get some Cameo apples. They might be my new favorite. A nice local orchard with none of the rigmarole of the big places.”

“Great farm with beautiful apple picking. Great variety of apples. Really enjoyed the empire apples. Did a day trip from NYC on a friday and it was the perfect get away, very calm environment. Chocolate milk and apple cider are a must get!! Taxi from Albany-Rensselaer was not bad. 233 Bus route is a 30 min walk away; however, it isn’t very frequent, so we only took the bus one way.”

“Super cute and had a great time for the most part. I hate to leave a negative review for a small business but we did not have a good experience with the employees and you cannot treat your customers like this and expect to not have backlash! Taking photos with my friend at 4:30, a half hour before we were TOLD they would be closing. A man comes up to us to tell us they’re closing up. We start heading back, stopping briefly to take some additional photos, when not even two minutes later the same man comes up and says “we’ve got about five people waiting to go home up here” so we apologize and start heading back. A few seconds later he scolds us again! I’ve worked in customer service my whole career and if we decided to close early, I would NEVER treat a customer like that. You wait for them to leave, you don’t get to just go home early. And you especially don’t speak to them like this. When we went inside to pay, the young cashier wasn’t very pleasant either.”

“The orchard was a bit lacking in apples which I'm sure is unavoidable this time of year, but the staffing of this place was where the real issue lies. When my friend and I got there we asked an employee what time they close and were told 5pm. So my friend and I were picking apples and taking some pictures when the time hit 4:30. It was at this point that a man came by on a quad and told us they were closing. So we started walking back and paused to take a couple more pictures because we still had half an hour but that was when the old man on the quad came back by. We saw him coming and stopped taking pictures and started to walk back because we didn't want to cause any issues. He proceeded to yell at us that there were 5 people waiting to go home. I said "ok" but he continued to yell after we'd already acknowledged him and were actively walking. We then paid for our apples, as well as purchased some donuts and a steak, but we were unfortunately met again with very disappointing customer service. But then the "five people waiting to go home" were still standing by a tractor and chitchatting even after we were in our car for a bit while we finished our donuts and then left. Overall it's a cute enough spot but the attitudes of the employees were severely lacking. I would recommend checking out Bowman Farm or Indian Ladder Farm for a much better experience in all aspects.”
