Before you go

A short checklist so the trip feels easy — especially helpful for first-time u-pick visits in Illinois.

  • Bring closed-toe shoes, sun protection, water, and containers unless the farm supplies them.
  • Call or check the website for today’s picking conditions — mud, rain, and sold-out fields are common.
  • Arrive earlier in the day for cooler weather and better selection during peak weekends.
  • Cash still helps at smaller stands even when cards are accepted.

“Great experience at Liberty Apple Orchard. We were impressed by the safety measures in place. All employees and fellow pickers wore masks or kept a safe distance. The orchard was very clean (we were encouraged to throw unfinished samples into the weeded area) and thus minimal bees. The trees were full of apples, all easy to reach. It was easy to keep space from other pickers even though there were many other cars in the parking area. Easy short walk from parking to check in area and then to the orchard. They provided bags or bring your own. We picked 6 different varieties! Trees were clearly marked with colored ribbons. Prices for our trip in September 2020 were <$2/lb - great price for the quality. The employees we interacted with were very kind and knowledgeable. Looking forward to returning later in the season to sample additional varieties! Great experience.”

“Liberty is an amazing, local you pick apple orchard! There's always someone to show and explain where different kinds of apples are located in the orchard and lots of helpful signs to help you find the apple your looking for. They have a little shop to purchase pre picked apples and other goodies. Also on their property is a small old schoolhouse that has old tools used for apple cider processing and historic school materials. All the apples are great and you can even buy local honey from them made on the farm as well!”

“Best apple Orchard ever! Everyone is super nice and helpful. The girl helping at the front table showed us where everything was and which apples would be best for us. Amazing selection of apples and the apple cider slushy was super good! I really like how they allow people to try the apples incase they don’t know if they will like them. Overall 10/10 customer service and 10/10 product. A lot better than large commercial orchard companies”

“I finally came in person after buying their products for the past two years at the farmers market. The orchard is beautiful, peaceful, and well-maintained. The owner is kind and the staff were welcoming. It also was quiet and had a nice selection of apples. I've never had apples as delicious as theirs before and my little one loves their applesauce which is tastey and absent of added sugars.”

“Wonderful little orchard, no extra fees, fabulous varieties and a helpful staff. While we were picking a staffer offered us a pole/canvas contraption to help pick the high apples—fabulous! Just a lovely little spot that’s not overcrowded and not full of extra stuff that distracts from why you’re there in the first place. No kid meltdowns, a tidy little shop and apples galore.”

“Exceeded all of my expectations! Visited on 9/25/22 and it was delightful. Spent less than an hour there but was able to pick 5 different varieties. No entrance fee, no frills - just a beautifully maintained orchard, delicious apples, and very friendly staff. Bonus: amazing apple cider slushies! Right off of I-55 on our drive back to the city - just perfect.”

“This place is awesome! The apples are delicious and the prices are exceptionally reasonable. Our 3-year-old loves the experience and eating the apples at home. We love stopping by to pick in the orchard or just grab some pre-picked apples. The people are friendly and helpful.”

“Super cute family owned apple orchard. Lots of amazing trees to pick from. Just on the edge of town so it's easy to run out for 30-60 minutes and do your thing and be done. Yummy baked goods and stuff in the shop too!”
