Lyman Orchards Pick Your Own

“I attended the Lyman Orchard Strawberry Festival for the first time! There were way too many people to pick my own at the time. The festival was small, parking was a bit challenging, but overall, it was a good time! The strawberry shortcake was delicious, the band was awesome. Can't forget about the souvenir kettle corn popcorn to enjoy later! 😂 I'm already looking forward to attending this again next year if it's held again.”

“We go here every year because there is no better way to get freshly grown fruit. I usually go whenever they have pick your own fruit, it's a good way to pick your own and making sure that you get what you want. They have all types of fruit to pick, for this particular review, we went for apples, and I have to say, it is a great experience, on top of spending quality time with family.”

“My family and I have been coming to Lyman Orchards for 3 years now, from apple picking to berry picking, to festivals, we love coming here! Today we went to pick berries, and it was a really nice experience! We got a lot of great berries, and we all love eating the fresh fruit. And the staff are all great! I highly recommend going here!”

“We went Strawberry and Honeyberry picking Saturday. The experience was fun! There were plenty of berries to pick and the signs were clear and easy to understand. The prices were moderate but the experience was great!”

“Big orchard with sweet (but tiny) Asian pears and apples! We learned they had peaches at a different location than the PYO apples and pears. The only good apple was the Gala at the time we went (wo 9/4) and they were all pretty much all picked except the higher up ones - bring a ladder. The Asian pears were all really great! The price we got was $44 for the biggest bag but I’m pretty sure I paid less for a bigger (and stronger) bag upstate NY…”

“We were there today, it was our first time visiting the place. The Maze was fun, but we really didn't like that everything wasn't in one location. The maze is next to the road, right by the mini market. If you want “pick your own” apples, you have to go back to your car and drive about 4 more minutes up the road. In the area where we entered to pick apples, the portable restrooms were closed. The person working there told us that if we wanted to use the restroom, we had to leave that area and drive to another location where the restrooms were operational. My daughter needed to use the restroom, so we had to return to the car and drive a few more minutes down the road in search of the portable restrooms. We really didn't enjoy it much.”

“This place was not so great. We drove an hour to get here thinking it would be the elite strawberry picking experience. The parking situation is crappy (no one knows how to park). Then you walk to the booth to purchase your container of choice. We chose to purchase two quarts. Once you purchase you walk down the pathway to the strawberry picking area which is a little ways down a small hill. The area looks big however the whole thing was a mess. You are supposed to pick in the rows in between the cones but there were no employees manning the area so people were picking wherever. This is a mess because you are constantly trying to maneuver out of the way to go up and down the rows. The strawberries looked AWFUL to be honest. Each row was so messy with smashed strawberries all over the place, spiders (daddy long legs mostly) hiding in the strawberry bushes. Rotten strawberries and not ready to pick ones. We had so much trouble finding good strawberries, it was so frustrating. We eventually filled our containers but vowed to never go back. The weekend prior we visited Jones Farm in Shelton which was MILES better. I’m not usually a fan of Jones but they are so much more organized there and their strawberries look and taste way better. Plus their selection was huge and they have plenty of employees cleaning up and assigning you a specific row. The issue with Lyman is that everything is a walk in (no reservations) so you get too many people and there aren’t any employees manning the field. Do yourself a favor a choose a different place.”
