A short checklist so the trip feels easy — especially helpful for first-time u-pick visits in Indiana.
- Bring closed-toe shoes, sun protection, water, and containers unless the farm supplies them.
- Call or check the website for today’s picking conditions — mud, rain, and sold-out fields are common.
- Arrive earlier in the day for cooler weather and better selection during peak weekends.
- Cash still helps at smaller stands even when cards are accepted.

“A timeless family tradition wrapped in apples, laughter, and Indiana charm—Pleasant View Orchard never disappoints. Pleasant View Orchard is more than just a place to pick apples—it's a slice of Hoosier heritage. Founded in the 1930s and now lovingly operated by the Kemper family, this 40-acre orchard near Fairland, Indiana has been a seasonal staple for generations. With over 30 varieties of apples, a pumpkin patch, and a bustling concession stand, it’s a destination that blends nostalgia with fresh flavors and family fun. We had a fantastic time visiting with our grandchildren. From climbing hay bales and sliding into giggles to hunting for the perfect apple, the kids were in their element. The playground kept them entertained, and the snack break was a highlight: Caramel Apple Slices and Fried Biscuits with Apple Butter were a hit, especially when paired with Apple Cider or the refreshing Apple Cider Slush. The orchard offers a pick-your-own experience for apples and pumpkins, plus a retail store stocked with fresh produce, preserves, and seasonal treats. Their concession stand—open daily through fall—serves up delights like hot apple cobbler a la mode, fried biscuits, and even elephant ears. On weekends, you’ll find wagon rides to the pumpkin patch, live music, and special events like wine tastings and animal shows. Parking was easy on our recent visit, though we’ve had busier days where it took a bit more patience. Still, the payoff is always worth it. Whether you're sipping cider, savoring cobbler, or watching your grandkids leap through straw, Pleasant View Orchard delivers a wholesome, memory-making experience rooted in Indiana tradition.”

“Came for a preschool field trip. Plenty of parking, well labeled row markers to help navigate for apple picking, and wide rows allow easy stroller access. They also have a fantastic playground for children including: swings, giant tires, and a hay stack with slides. Store is handicap accessible and offers products for sale such as gords and other fall decorations, apples of course, and ready to eat hot and cold food items in the cafe. There is covered seating out front with benches for eating but be watchful of the bees. Lastly, it isn't as big or busy as other local area orchards have gotten over the recent years so it is more enjoyable experience. You are not crammed in with a hundred other families. It is definitely worth the drive!”

“Such a nice orchard. Been there many times. Does get CRAZY busy on the weekends- as expected. But plan accordingly. Not a ton of parking spots when it busy. Great area to walk and find apples. Great food and apple cider slushies for the fall. Also very good and GIANT elephant ear! Yum! Many jams and pickled items available for purchase as well. Also some premade pie and ciders! They also have prepicked apples for those who just want to get them fast. Great workers. Always friendly and on top of everything! Definitely recommend! But if you can go during the weekday.”

“Fun in the countryside picking apples and your own🎃. Be sure to stop by and have some caramel, apples, biscuits, and apple butter. The owners are wonderful as well. Update on the Pleasant View Orchard- Going to Pleasant View Orchard is still fantastic and what a beautiful day to go out there and pick your own apples for making pie or going to the store which already had the honey crisp and many others packaged up! It was very fun picking out our own pumpkins and getting delicious apples. All enjoyed a wonderful day 🧡🎃🍁🍎”

“Took the back roads from Greenwood and found it in the middle of nowhere - my perfect spot! The place was small with lots of different apple trees. They served hot food at very reasonable prices. We went during the "once a year" sampling day, and they were giving samples of nearly everything they sold. The staff was very nice and was willing to help everyone. We will definitely be back during the fall!”

“Had a great time. The orchard has around 11-15 varieties of apples. The place has a pumpkin patch as well and looked beautiful with the fall decorations. The place is clean, well maintained and has restrooms as well. The products were a little pricey.”

“My girlfriend and I went there last Sunday to get some mini pumpkins for decoration. They had tuns of different apples to choose from. We didn’t see many pumpkins besides the mini and smaller ones at the store. It may have been too early for them to be harvested as it was early September. Cool little store. Their caned apple cider was great and my girlfriend really enjoyed her apple cider slushy. There were lots of places to park and it was easy to find. They had a small play ground for the kids. It was very kid friendly but didn’t really cater to adults without kids. Regardless, we still had a good time walking around.”
