A short checklist so the trip feels easy — especially helpful for first-time u-pick visits in Illinois.

“My family and I used a group coupon to go to their opening day yesterday, and while unfortunately it was 92 degrees, we were still glad we came. I know it would be a lot more crowded if it wasn't for the hot weather. We are from Northwest Indiana, so we drove approximately an hour to get there. It is way more immersive, affordable, and entertaining than any of the pumpkin patches we have in NWI! I would come here again since I think the place really was fun for kids up to the age of twelve. Pros: a LOT of cute fun things for the kiddos up to twelve years old. We really loved the trains, slide, and some of the rides that cooled us down in the midst of the heat. The "smoke shack" had the best food on the farm, and the workers were very attentive and sweet. It was my first time trying a hamburger with Mac and cheese, and they managed to pull it off pretty well. The place really tried to cater to parents with their outdoor bars, and one had swings that adults can sit on while watching their little ones play. Also, their apple cider slushies were delicious! The gift shop had some many cute fall decor that even my minimalist self wanted to buy as decorations. I absolutely adored their zinnia, sunflower, and cosmos fields. Cute for pictures! They even had a barn (not open to the public) and outdoor ceremony gathering by the flower fields for weddings. I think it would be so lovely to have a wedding reception there! Cons: not much entertainment for teenagers. I found my cousins attending to their younger siblings a lot, which helps with sibling bonding, but that can only last so long. I think there has to be more entertaining rides for them. Then it would be perfect for all ages. Other criticism is the lack of places with AC. I know it's a place for cooler temperatures, and yes, we know it's a pumpkin patch, but we would have stayed ma lot longer if we weren't baking in the heat. There are lots of picnic tables with shade, but that can only do so much for even the elderly. Also, the porta potties are your only bathrooms, but the workers do work around the clock to keep them clean. And there are outdoor sinks everywhere too, especially by the petting zoo. I do wish there can be refills and better cup sizes for the apple cider slushies. They were a little pricey too. Sorry for the long review, but I try to be open and fair in all of my assessments. Overall, I had a great time, and would come back here again. Definitely recommend!”

“Will not be going here again for two reasons ; I did not like how dirty the animal enclosures were kept & this is the first farm i go to where their apple cider donuts taste bad. On the brightside the hot chocolate was good & the hayride was free, and there were lots of spots for pictures thats about it. Lots to do for kids too. If you don't mind how the animals living area looks or you don't care how bad their donuts are than this farm is good & safe for you.”

“Our experience at this farm was nothing short of frustrating and disappointing. From the start, communication was minimal and unhelpful, emails were short, incomplete, and lacked the courtesy you’d expect when planning a large group visit. Before booking, I even drove 40 minutes to see the farm myself, only to be told I needed an appointment. I ended up purchasing a ticket just to look around for half an hour. When our group finally arrived on the event day, we were told the farm never received our 50% deposit, even though we had already paid it. Our entire group had to wait 20 minutes outside the entrance while they tried to sort out their mistake. We also asked for a small table outside the entrance to organize check-in and distribute wristbands, a very simple request, and were flat-out refused because “it wasn’t arranged ahead of time.” To make matters worse, nowhere in the proposal or emails did it say that outside beverages were not allowed. We brought our own apple cider, only to be told we couldn’t bring it in and that “it’s all over the website.” I had to take it back to my car and purchase drinks from them instead. The worst part was the behavior of one of their teenage employees. As we were leaving, I was stopped and asked if I had purchased the doughnuts we bought from them earlier, implying that I was stealing. Moments later, after I put them in the car and walked back in, the SAME employee asked, “Who are you?” as if I was sneaking in. It was incredibly rude and unprofessional. It’s a real shame that a family-owned farm seems to have no understanding of customer service or hospitality. Our group will absolutely not be returning, and I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone planning an organized visit or group outing.”

“I should’ve trusted the low reviews before coming here. We decided to give this pumpkin farm a chance on a Saturday, expecting it to be busy and full of life like other local farms but it was practically empty. At first, I thought that might be a good thing, but after walking around for a bit, it was pretty obvious why no one was there. The place felt run-down and lifeless. A lot of the attractions looked neglected or closed, and the staff seemed uninterested and annoyed to even be working. There was zero atmosphere… no music, no smiles, nothing that made it feel festive or fun. It honestly felt awkward being there. The few things that were open weren’t worth the price. For what they charge, you’d expect at least decent service or something memorable, but it was such a disappointment. It’s clear this farm has gone downhill, and now I understand why so many people have left negative reviews. I really wanted to support a local business, but after this experience, I won’t be back. Save your time and money and go somewhere that actually cares about its guests.”

“My family and I recently visited Siegel's Pumpkin Farm, and it was, without a doubt, the worst experience we have ever had. The pumpkin patch itself was underwhelming, offering nothing beyond the standard selection of pumpkins and a few apple cider donuts. There were no rides or other attractions to entertain, which was disappointing. However, the real issue was the behavior of the manager. She subjected my family to a barrage of hateful slurs and even went as far as calling us terrorists. This was an incredibly shocking and hurtful experience. To make matters worse, her actions influenced the children she was with, who then began cursing at us. We have never been treated with such disrespect, and it was deeply upsetting to witness such behavior, especially in front of our children. I would strongly advise anyone considering a visit to Siegel's Pumpkin Farm to reconsider. The lack of amenities combined with the appalling treatment we received makes it a place I would never recommend.”

“I really wanted to like this place, but my experience was awful from start to finish. The staff were rude and acted like they were doing us a favor just by being there. No smiles, no welcome, just attitude. For a family attraction, the energy here was anything but friendly. Trash everywhere. The doughnuts are inedible. The prices were ridiculously high for what you actually get. This place is poorly run and awfully maintained. It’s honestly sad, because this could be such a nice place if it was managed better and if the people working there actually cared about customer experience. I won’t be back, and I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone who values good service or basic respect. There are plenty of other local farms that do it right. This one is definitely not worth the money or the headache. Go to Bengston’s!”

“Horrible experience. Came to the farm for the first time and NEVER coming back. We purchased tickets to the egg hunt for this year and all of the eggs were empty…. They claim they put “thousands” of dollar worth of stuff inside the eggs and 99% of them are empty. SUCH A SCAM!!!!! Do not waste your time at this establishment.”
