Before you go
A short checklist so the trip feels easy — especially helpful for first-time u-pick visits in Virginia.
- Bring closed-toe shoes, sun protection, water, and containers unless the farm supplies them.
- Call or check the website for today’s picking conditions — mud, rain, and sold-out fields are common.
- Arrive earlier in the day for cooler weather and better selection during peak weekends.
- Cash still helps at smaller stands even when cards are accepted.

“Fun family outing! We went on a weekday morning early in the season and there were other families with little kids, so our toddler was in good company. Lots of gorgeous sweet red cherries ripe for the picking, some even low enough for little ones to pick. Be aware that some herbicides are sprayed at the bottom of the trees, but cherries picked from the higher branches should be good to eat right off the branch without washing. Sharing an image of the orchard rules for others to be aware: no strollers or diaper bags, and also no outside food. I had thought we might have a little picnic up there, but it's not an option. There's just one structure set up with a few items for purchase, such as cherry butter ($10) and cherry slushies, and of course the buckets needed for picking. $17 basket will fit about 2 lbs, and the $40 bucket fits about 5 lbs.”

“Lovely place to spend an afternoon, it's off the beaten track but the scenery is breathtaking and the fruit is delicious! Sure, it might be a little more expensive than buying cherries at the grocery store but the taste is unparalleled and the location is so serene. There's some smaller trees so the little ones can also pick there own and portapotties on site. There's some lovely places to stop off nearby in Nelson county and make a day trip of it. Highly recommend making the trip out here. Also recommend buying more cherries than you think you need as you'll find yourself eating handfuls all the time, they're that good!”

Farm people were really nice and for washing hands they have soap and water.. 🙂 You literally park your car and next thing you will see is cherry tree..”

“Pros: 1. Went in the middle of June. Cherries are very sweet, beats any cherries you buy from the shops. 2. Scenic route and spot. Cons: 1. Location/Accessibility: This could be true with any other orchards but I haven’t been to too many. It was never ending dirt road, you would need car wash after coming back. There’s steep downhill and uphill spots. If you aren’t careful with the steep downhill, you will die in the lake. The uphill is bad road, my car got stuck and wouldn’t move. No mud, just gravel. Had to back off and drive around it. 2. Road signs would have helped, the GPS crossed the destination and had to follow other vehicles. 3. All the best cherries are at the top of the trees. So either you carry your own picker stick or limit your reach up to your height. 4. Price: About $17 for small basket and $40 for large. That’s about $4.5 to $5 per pound and it may feel expensive but as I say cherries taste greatest. You also need to think of lot of pickers not being mindful of the property. Lot of cherries are dropped and some pickers climb up the trees causing permanent damage and loss.”

“The staff follow us every where and keep watching us all time. They were very rude. It expensive but they make us pick where they already pick for sale and only have some little cherry left.I was there last year, it was very nice and they have sweet yellow cherry that why we come back this year but they don't have anymore. I will never be back”
