Before you go

A short checklist so the trip feels easy — especially helpful for first-time u-pick visits in Virginia.

  • Bring closed-toe shoes, sun protection, water, and containers unless the farm supplies them.
  • Call or check the website for today’s picking conditions — mud, rain, and sold-out fields are common.
  • Arrive earlier in the day for cooler weather and better selection during peak weekends.
  • Cash still helps at smaller stands even when cards are accepted.

What visitors say

“Went here as a part of my bachelorette winery/cidery tour. I loved everything about this place. The cider was amazing. I am a huge fan of the dry/not sweet style cider they produce. The view was beautiful and the staff was kind. We came early on a sunday morning and had the place to ourselves. We did a cider tasting outside and not only were all the ciders great, the pourer gave us a lot of great information. If you are a cider lover or new to cider, I encourage you to try out Abelmarle Cider. This is nothing like those overly sweet grocery store ciders!”

“This is a follow-up to Daniel Ontiveros' one star review posting. It appears due to an email technical issue Vintage Virginia Apples never saw my original email inquiry and, as such, did not respond. This very morning I received a telephone call from them. They explained their position and I mine. All is resolved! Vintage Virginia Apples seems to be a very credible business which stands by their product and service. The tone of our conversation is enough to know these are good folks! My take-away from this incident is "buy with confidence."”

“Lovely staff. So helpful and knowledgable and passionate about what they do. Absolutely loved Spek the farm dog, as well as the fantastic tasting and selection of ciders. One of the best orchards outsode of Charlottesville. Will be coming back to see the orchard in full bloom and to buy more of that amazing cider!”

“I ordered two antique/heirloom variety apple trees and couldn't be happier with my experience. The staff was very friendly and informative on the phone. My trees were shipped on time after I gave them somewhat short notice. They arrived early and in good condition. Excellent!”

“Fabulous, big selection, always hospitable, friendly staff, willing to bend over backwards to help. Beautiful area, knowledgeable assistance.”

“Laid-back, country atmosphere. Tasty ciders. Friendly folks. Definitely a good visit.”

“Ciders are tart not sweet. No frills tasting. Small operation.”

“Ordered 3 different apple trees. Since the trees were very young (1 year), I was unable to verify I received the trees I ordered when they arrived. A year and half later and once the trees had fruited, I find one of the trees I had ordered was not correct. I tried to contact Vintage Virginia Apples to allow them the opportunity to make this right , they will not respond to my email. I understand mistakes can be made but to not engage with a customer is poor form! I give one star as the trees they sent are healthy. It is so sad a fellow Virginian will not stand by their word!”
