Before you go

A short checklist so the trip feels easy — especially helpful for first-time u-pick visits in Rhode Island.

  • Bring closed-toe shoes, sun protection, water, and containers unless the farm supplies them.
  • Call or check the website for today’s picking conditions — mud, rain, and sold-out fields are common.
  • Arrive earlier in the day for cooler weather and better selection during peak weekends.
  • Cash still helps at smaller stands even when cards are accepted.

“My husband and I had a lovely time at the orchard. I found the price a little steep, but we had so much here we agreed it was worth it! The farm is very picturesque. The orchard only had McIntoshs which I found rather tart but we made some damn good pies. The staff was very friendly and extremely knowledgeable. Highly recommend!”

“This is a quintessential New England Apple farm. Family owned and run its a local favorite! From peaches in August to Apples, pumpkins, cider, honey sticks, mums and more. Definitely bring a wagon and get ready to enjoy some apple picking fun with your kids your friends and family.”

“Love Steere Orchard! They have great peaches and great apples. Day one of Peach Fest was today. What a nice day.. A good variety of vendors. They had music, tractor hay rides and this year they added a "Tractor Exhibit" No charge for parking or entrance fee. Great Family Day.”

“Lots of apples even at the end of October. Super fun hayride to the orchard and pumpkin patch. The store has yummy donuts and cider. We visit every year”

“Great apple picking place. Not busy and many apples. We had a nice welcome from a big friendly lab. Prices are reasonable. Staff was pleasant.”

“Delicious apples in easy to pick all different flavors. It's great here I love it”

“Very large orchard with few apple varieties. We had a good experience, but not sure if this will be our first choice next time. The pricing was higher than other farms, but they had the most beautiful mums. Also had very pretty fall scenes in the background. A staff member walked us out to the Apple trees and was very helpful.”

“I’ve been to this orchard a few times and have always found it way overpriced. We have avoided it the last few years because every orchard section we’ve been to is COVERED in poison ivy. While they have lots of trees, I find the selection of apple varieties very limited. They cart you out to a specific section of the orchard and you’re only allowed to pick that small section. This weekend, our section included Cortland and Macintosh. That’s it. Really, only the Macintosh were any good. I really only went because my SIL wanted to try it out, and sure enough the section was absolutely covered in Poison Ivy. I tried the best I could to keep my kids away from it, but with three small children, that’s pretty impossible. My 9 year old slipped on a smashed apple and landed hands and knees right in a big patch of it. The last few years we’ve been going to Sunset Orchard and have been able to pick a huge variety of apples and I’ve seen any notable amount of PI there. I doubt I’ll ever go back to Steere Orchard, which is a shame because it’s SO close to where I live.”
