What you can pick

In October, check what’s currently ripe before you go. Seasons below are typical windows for Iowa, not a guarantee for this exact farm.

Before you go

A short checklist so the trip feels easy — especially helpful for first-time u-pick visits in Iowa.

  • Bring closed-toe shoes, sun protection, water, and containers unless the farm supplies them.
  • Call or check the website for today’s picking conditions — mud, rain, and sold-out fields are common.
  • Wear clothes you don’t mind getting stained; berry juice and field mud travel home with you.
  • Cash still helps at smaller stands even when cards are accepted.

“Visited to pick strawberries early in the season. Lots of berries in the field, and the farm seems to keep expanding each year with more plots! Lots of parking available, but we had some issues with people parking close and little room to backup. So be a little careful picking a spot to park your car. Walk down a short dirt/mulch path to the stand where you can use their baskets/flats to pick. We brought our own buckets for reference on how many berries to pick for jam. They subtracted a general weight for the ice cream bucket at the end. Directed to pick starting at a flag in a row, and move in one direction. Two of us picked for about an hour for two ice cream buckets. Very sweet, juicy berries. Even the less ripe berries were excellent. Highly recommend! Give it a visit if you need to make some jam or pies”

“My family and I had such a pleasant time at the Berry Basket Farm last week. The attractive signage and the walk down the winding mulch path through the trees to the berry patch made for a great first impression. We were welcomed and set up with a row of berries ready for the picking. Even my 2-year-old got in on the fun as she plopped ripe berries into her small tin pail (and a few straight into her mouth)! The experience was terrific, and the fact that the berries were incredibly juicy and beyond flavorful was almost just icing on the cake. We will be back next year!”

“Our second time at the Berry Basket Farm! Each time it was a very fun and memorable experience to share with our little one. She had a blast running through the fields picking fresh strawberries! Mark is kind & love being able to do this. The strawberries are juicy and delicious each time! Will continue coming yearly for a fun experience”

“Hello reviews readers, This farm is super nice farm. Mr. Mark is very very polite, well behaved gentle man. Strawberries were sweet and juicy. We went there from a little bit far place but it worth to visit. Super nice farm and awesome people. All the very best to you guys. Must visit place in town. Kudos.”

“My son and I had such a great time finding berries for our annual homemade jam. Although we needed more rain this year, the berries taste super sweet & better than the store. Everything was well-organized. We will definitely be back!”

“Several delightful varieties and sizes of berries on an easy-to-pick patch shaded in the late afternoon by a grove of trees. The hosts were very helpful and friendly!”

“We took the family this morning and had a great time! The berries were huge and delicious. We picked 23lbs in under an hr:)”
