What you can pick

In October, check what’s currently ripe before you go. Seasons below are typical windows for Iowa, not a guarantee for this exact farm.

Before you go

A short checklist so the trip feels easy — especially helpful for first-time u-pick visits in Iowa.

  • Bring closed-toe shoes, sun protection, water, and containers unless the farm supplies them.
  • Call or check the website for today’s picking conditions — mud, rain, and sold-out fields are common.
  • Arrive earlier in the day for cooler weather and better selection during peak weekends.
  • Cash still helps at smaller stands even when cards are accepted.

“Fantastic place! They have a huge selection of apples and other produce, as well as the best honey I've ever tasted. It's very kid-friendly with child-sized buckets and long apple-picking sticks. Trips to Upstream Gardens and Orchard are quickly becoming a family tradition.”

“Laura was really helpful and welcoming! They have lots of veggies and fruits to choose from. You can pretty much pick whatever you want and take home. The prices were very reasonable almost like shopping at a grocery store but getting quality produce.”

“Amazing experience getting to pick your own veggies. The owners are incredibly kind. They also make their own honey! Too bad we found them so late in the fall, will definitely be back next spring!”

“I love this place! The owner was a sweetheart, and they had so many options to choose from. Easily one of the best honeys I've ever had, and I cant wait to use it in all of my baking.”

“The place is very nice, prices are fair, and the owners are wonderful. We got a flat, and the owners helped get our spare on. Even let my son help.”

“What an amazing experience! Laura was incredible thoughtful and friendly, super diverse orchards and gardens! Was so excited to find honey comb!”

“Such a cute place. Big juicy strawberries and veggies. Super friendly staff and the stinger honey is amazing!!”

“Went last weekend and it was fun for a 1st experience picking apples at an orchard. We got over 21lbs. Big variety of apples and other fruits to pick from. Pumpkins too. The guy running the place was nice and helpful. The prices for honey were the cheapest and best I've ever seen in all of Iowa. If your in Altoona sometime, stop in and try this place.”
