Before you go

A short checklist so the trip feels easy — especially helpful for first-time u-pick visits in Michigan.

  • Bring closed-toe shoes, sun protection, water, and containers unless the farm supplies them.
  • Call or check the website for today’s picking conditions — mud, rain, and sold-out fields are common.
  • Wear clothes you don’t mind getting stained; berry juice and field mud travel home with you.
  • Cash still helps at smaller stands even when cards are accepted.

“Went out there to go strawberry picking this morning. The only surprise is that the berries were smaller this year. Boy, dont let that fool you! Those berries are so sweet and juicy! We got two gallon sized buckets full! It took a little bit longer because they were smaller, but I didn't mind. Go picking early in the morning (I believe they open at 6am) before the heat! They encourage you to sample the berries while you are picking! Go into the store, they have all sorts of goodies! Fresh baked strawberry donuts, alreagy picked berries, different jams, dressings, seasonings and more! If they have their chocolate chip cookies available, i recommend you get them! Little piece of heaven right there! AJ and his family are always really nice and super helpful! We will be back for 🎃 in the Fall! Happy picking!”

“Great place!! I was so disappointed I missed berry picking in southeast Michigan because the season seemed like a short one and not the best. Anyway we traveled an hour away from our cabin in Oscoda. So happy to have picked strawberries and raspberries together on July 6th who would have thought!! The berries were beautiful and are delicious and still so many left. Such a cute little farm with delicious scones as well! We hope to make it a tradition when in oscoda every summer!”

“AJ's farm is an excellent source of seasonal fruits and vegetables as well as many other typical farm products. This farm is run traditionally by a hard working family who respects the land and community. They employ small farm economics and avoid chemicals which results in a true farm to table model. AJ's farm is truly impressive and stands as an environmental example of a how farms should be.”

“AJ's Berry farm is awesome. We come every year for picking season and it's a 30 min drive for us. Today we picked raspberries and strawberries and they were plentiful and sooo delicious. We were able to fill 2 quarts of each in about 30 min. Their small store always has yummy treats like donuts, jams, candy and drinks. All of the employees are very nice. Definitely highly recommended.”

“We purchased 30 quarts of strawberries from AJ’s Berry Farm over the last two weeks. Our experience with them has been phenomenal! The family is friendly, kind, very accommodating and so helpful. The prices are reasonable and the berries were incredibly good. The additional products they sell make such great gifts. We highly recommend AJ’s.”

“I can't get enough of their baked goods!!! Of course it's also the area's spots for fresh produce as well.”

“My mom and I purchased a few baked goods from their store. We were not impressed. They need better quality control for the price! My mom bought a strawberry cream cheese pie for over $20 that had crust so hard as a brick you couldn’t eat it. We ended up having to eat just the berries on top. Then we tried scones but they also weren’t the greatest. I’m not sure how they manage to sell their baked goods when they don’t have good bakers. We will not be buying baked goods here anymore but do visit every year to buy berries.”

“They have two fields of strawberries. One is matured with great looking berries. That one is for employees only and they are sold as prepicked. The other one is for pickyourown strawberries. The berries are small, and don't have a lot of flavor at all. We ended up picking some anyway, and had to add strawberry extract into the jam we made, which is something we have never had to do.”
