What you can pick
In October, check what’s currently ripe before you go. Seasons below are typical windows for Illinois, not a guarantee for this exact farm.
Before you go
A short checklist so the trip feels easy — especially helpful for first-time u-pick visits in Illinois.
- Bring closed-toe shoes, sun protection, water, and containers unless the farm supplies them.
- Call or check the website for today’s picking conditions — mud, rain, and sold-out fields are common.
- Arrive earlier in the day for cooler weather and better selection during peak weekends.
- Cash still helps at smaller stands even when cards are accepted.

“Oh my! Blackberry Farm was such an amazing place to visit! The entire park is beautiful, peaceful, and full of fun activities for all ages. I loved exploring everything, from the historic buildings to the train ride and all the hands-on experiences. Oh my, there was always something new to see around every corner! The grounds were incredibly clean and well-maintained, and the staff were so friendly and welcoming. It has such a relaxing atmosphere that makes you want to slow down and enjoy the day. Whether you're visiting with family, friends, or just looking for a fun afternoon, this place is definitely worth the trip. Oh my, I can't wait to come back and make even more great memories here! Greg out!”

“Great for kids. My daughter's love the train, carousel, wagon ride and playground. The ponies are a fun experience for younger kids because there is a weight limit. (Rightly so, of course, the horses health and comfort are very important.) We love to take a picnic lunch and sit at one of the many table options or in the grass. Love the animals and the option to feed the animals (there is a fee). We dont always feed them but that makes it more special when we do. There are hand sanitizer dispensers by the animals which I appreciate as well as bathrooms nearby. There are more ac t invites and such but these are some of what we enjoy.”

“I take my family here every year for about the past 10 years and we always have a good time. It's small enough where it doesn't feel overwhelming and they have many things to do. Kids can ride ponies, there is a big playground, picnic table locations, carousel, paddle boats, petting zoo, train ride, and a tractor ride. All the workers are friendly and the bathrooms are very clean. They have limited hours, but it's open a bit longer in the summer. They also have a pavilion where you can order food.”

“Beautiful play farm. Very well maintained. Very friendly and helpful staff, esp in the pottery and weavery. Our kids loved feeding the animals (mostly goats with an alpaca), riding the train, the carousel, and the ponies. Of note, the pony ride has a weight limit of 70 lb. Sadly the paddle boats were not open during our visit. The ponds looked nice. Definitely worth the entrance fee.”

“One of my favorite farms I've ever visited. Fun for everyone, clean, beautiful, not too crowded/lots of space, affordable, relaxing, the list could go on. They really thought about the details and making it a great family friendly experience. Loved the instrumental music played throughout the park, it really added to the relaxing atmosphere. We can't wait to visit again!”

“I’ve been to Blackberry Farm twice with my baby and had a great experience both times. It’s a fun family friendly place with plenty of activities for young children. The train ride, carousel, animals, and playground kept my little one entertained, and the grounds were nice for walking around. A great spot for families with young kids.”

“Wonderful place for families especially little ones. We went here recently and the kids loved it. (Private school event) There was a merry go round, train, and huge playground area. There were a variety of animals in the barn area. Kids were loving the baby goats. I'm sure we didn't see everything. Will be going back for sure.”

“We had a wonderful experience with the kids today! It’s currently a late summer Monday and it was relatively quiet. The staff were polite, kind, and accommodating when needed. I was also surprised to see that the food wasn’t overly priced. Overall, we had a great experience and would be back!”
