Before you go

A short checklist so the trip feels easy — especially helpful for first-time u-pick visits in Illinois.

  • Bring closed-toe shoes, sun protection, water, and containers unless the farm supplies them.
  • Call or check the website for today’s picking conditions — mud, rain, and sold-out fields are common.
  • Arrive earlier in the day for cooler weather and better selection during peak weekends.
  • Cash still helps at smaller stands even when cards are accepted.

“Awesome place! Definitely a hidden gem. Pumpkins were quite cheap for their sizes, with a wide variety of size and type to select from, and the woman running the counter was helpful and kind. The apples are gorgeous (and massive, some the size of softballs), and most sections are clearly labeled (those that aren’t labeled were quickly identified by the owner when brought to her). The sunflower field is lovely as well, and a perfect photo opportunity for a family photo. The orchard also has a playground that includes a large sandbox with toys for kids, as well as a tube/pipe slide and swings. The goats were surprisingly social, coming up to the fence to greet us, and they happily accepted a few dandelion leaves as a snack. I think we’ve found our new favorite fall activity - and it’s a family owned business, which is always a perk for us! The pumpkin in the attached photo (with the pumpkin on someone’s shoulders) was $20 because of its sheer size, and the others were $5 each - better than grocery store prices. We also purchased some apple cider donuts, which are delicious - wonderful experience, if I could give it more stars I would. We’ll most certainly be coming back!”

“We brought our family here this weekend. They had the perfect amount of activities. They had a petting zoo, pony rides, corn maze, food stand, and you take your own wagon to pick out your pumpkins. Everyone had a blast. Plenty of food and a great selection inside their store. Thanks again. We will be back next year!”

“I just found out that Broom Orchard is under new ownership. The owners are a young family with 3 young children. I can tell there hearts are into their work They were very open about the desire’s for their business and their goals They were very helpful even to helping me carry my purchases to the car”

“The best peaches I've had in a long time. Lots of varieties of apples and peaches. A great little store. The zesta apples are my favorite. They even have dog treats. A great orchard.”

“This is such a fun orchard. There are plenty of kids activities and great apples. Definitely recommend arriving early before all the Carmel apples are bought.”

“Broom's is a great little gem! Fantastic produce and friendly people. Their prices are great too!”

“We have never been to Brooms orchard before and we drove an hour to get there. The ladies we encountered were not friendly. We were looking to buy a 1/2 bushel of peaches and were scolded harshly and told we were not allowed to touch the peaches. I tried to explain why we wanted to take a closer look because we had bought Calhoun peaches already bagged up and each bag had rotting peaches at the bottom but I was cut off and again yelled at saying she just boxed them that morning and don’t touch them because we would bruise them. You only get one chance to make a first impression. Yelling at your customers and being rude and abrasive is not a good first impression to make in my opinion. Because my mom had her heart set on getting some peaches to can we did go ahead and buy a $48 1/2 bushel and a $20 1/2 peck. I immediately got them out of the boxes. I will say that there were only a couple of slightly bruised peaches in the 1/2 peck box but there were 3 peaches in the 1/2 bushel box that had holes in them from worms or some type of insect so I took a picture of them. When she was scolding us for touching them she stated she had just boxed them herself that morning so she knew those bad ones were in there. If you don’t mind dealing with unfriendly people and are ok with not being allowed to look at what you are purchasing then you can buy your peaches there. I am not and will not be returning again. It ruined our whole experience and I won’t be recommending my friends and family go there.”

“This was a disaster for my family. My 9 year old daughter was very disappointed. To top it all off the "market" was going to charge our bank card $5.00 for a $2.00 item.”
