A short checklist so the trip feels easy — especially helpful for first-time u-pick visits in New York.
- Bring closed-toe shoes, sun protection, water, and containers unless the farm supplies them.
- Call or check the website for today’s picking conditions — mud, rain, and sold-out fields are common.
- Arrive earlier in the day for cooler weather and better selection during peak weekends.
- Cash still helps at smaller stands even when cards are accepted.

“Having been to the Jamesport affiliate of Harbes, I was a little wary of how this one would turn out, but I was pleasantly surprised! Despite going during peak fall season for apple picking, they have really done a great job to make the whole getting in and out MUCH easier. Apple variety was quite good and the staff gave plenty of helpful tips and directions to find the best apples in the orchard. Despite hwo busy it was, it still didn't even really feel TOO crowded just with how large the space is. The place also has options for food, wine, pumpkin picking, a corn maze, kids activities and of course apple cider donuts that can't be missed! This place may have singlehandedly renewed my faith in Long Island apple picking.”

“We had a great time at Harbes Orchard. There was a great variety of apples and a few different pricing options depending on the amount you wanted. This is a wonderful place for families to visit. Nice wide open spaces for kids to run around as well as a play area including a sand box. There was a tractor ride and pony rides too. Adults can enjoy wine, beer or cider while listening to live music. There were delicious sweet treats such as apple cider donuts and homemade ice cream. Although there are port-a-potties, there are also very clean bathrooms to use. This is a place I will definitely visit again.”

“We had a lot of fun at this location! The staff was friendly, and the facilities were well-maintained. We picked apples, went on a tractor ride, and successfully navigated the corn maze. The maze is fantastic, but please note that strollers are not allowed. Additionally, we enjoyed the apple cider slushes and apple cider donuts. If you're considering purchasing wine, make sure to request a sample beforehand.”

“Last fall, we had an amazing time going apple picking with the all-inclusive package it included apple picking, a trailer ride, and more. The highlight of the day, though, was definitely the ice cream topped with warm apple crumble. The apple cider was fantastic, and the donuts were absolutely delicious. Aside from picking apples, those treats were my favorite part of the experience.”

“I love this place! Started with Country music local beer, some of us had wine. Kids were building candle meanwhile. Then went into the truck that delivered us to apple picking - we tried so many types of apples! Loved it. The ticket came with 3 pound bag, there was option to get a 12 pound too (you do have to carry it back so make sure you can). Definitely coming back!”

“Who doesn’t love apple picking!?! Conveniently located in Long Island this spot is a treasure, but a tad too expensive; it’s more than what I have paid at other orchards upstate and also the bags are much smaller. And…you pay per person/bag. I’ve been to their locations where you can pay for whatever amount of bags you need and the bags hold a ridiculous amount of apples. In terms of the variety of apples the selection was great, and there are signs down each row telling you the name of the apple and how it can best be used (snacking or baking). The trees are intentionally dwarfed so you don’t need long pickers to get most of the apples. You can just reach out and grab em…great for the kiddos. The farm also has a maze, and pony rides for the kids. And a few booths for light shopping for the ladies. Of course, Apple donuts are also sale as well as local wines….with a live band. An enjoyable time for all.”

“This place is good for a cute family outing and a photo opp, but overall not a great or even typical orchard experience. First, the apples don’t grow on normal apple trees, but more like vines at a vineyard. I really love apple trees (especially old ones) so that was disappointing. The other weird thing is that they were thousands and thousands of apples on the ground. Not just under the trees but everywhere you walk you step over rotten, smashed apples. The old orchard smelled like apple cider vinegar. The prices are high too. $26 to enter and you put all the apples you can pick in a small bag. The maze which we wanted to do is a separate fee. A single candied apple is $12.”
