Before you go

A short checklist so the trip feels easy — especially helpful for first-time u-pick visits in New York.

  • Bring closed-toe shoes, sun protection, water, and containers unless the farm supplies them.
  • Call or check the website for today’s picking conditions — mud, rain, and sold-out fields are common.
  • Arrive earlier in the day for cooler weather and better selection during peak weekends.
  • Cash still helps at smaller stands even when cards are accepted.

“We visited Woodside Orchards in October, and it was the perfect fall day for apple picking. The orchard is a beautiful, secluded spot tucked away in Jamesport. You can pick apples right from the trees, and there’s a great variety to choose from. When we went, it was $11 for a small bag, which was a fair price for how many apples you could fit. The grounds are peaceful and well maintained, making it a nice place to walk around and enjoy the scenery. I’d highly recommend trying their apple cider, frozen apple cider, and especially the apple cider donuts — all were delicious. They also offer hard cider tastings for adults, which was a fun touch. Overall, we had a really nice time and would definitely go back. It’s a great place for families or anyone looking to enjoy a classic fall outing on the North Fork.”

“If you want to do apple picking on the north fork I highly recommend Woodside. Unlike other places, you don’t have to get a bag for each person. I found it ridiculous how at other places you need to get a bag for each person, especially when you have kids with you. We got a bag for our group and I splurged on their apple bread, apple cider, and apple doughnuts as well. All of with I’d recommend! After Apple picking I also filled up my 3 growlers with their alcoholic apple cider. They are always swapping out the flavors so I get to try something new every time I go.”

“Came to this location after the other location (pretty much 2 miles up the road) wasn’t offering apple picking for the day. We got there late so not that many apples to choose from as many were on the floor and a lot of the trees were bare. They also let you know what apples are available for picking. $20 CASH for a picking bag. Nevertheless we had a great time. The staff were friendly. Ample space to sit and have a drink and much on the sweets. ***One way in and one way out. The GPS tried to have us turn into a drive way. Would come back!”

“The large pick your own bag was a bit expensive at $23. The apple selection was a little limited (and small-sized apples this year) but that’s likely due to the weather this year being a bit off. I do wish they had the varieties updated on the website instead of it being non-specific, as when I came in today there were only 2 types available. Parking was pretty full but I had no issues. Overall an enjoyable experience.”

“Best place in long island for apple picking. The ciders are also fantastic. And I love the apple bread offered in their store, bought many times.”

“I went here on a Friday afternoon with my partner. The inside of the main building is super cozy with tables and couches there’s also ample seating with umbrellas behind the main building. All the standards ciders were great - the dry the sweet and the rose. The cider donuts were also fantastic! The apple orchard is behind the outdoor seating. There were four varieties of apples and probably around 100 trees. You get to fit all the apples you can in their paper bag for $20. This fits about ten pounds of apples. Definitely a fun romantic day when the weather is good. Thanks for having us!”

“It would be nice to have a staff member on site. We were thrown off because it had an eery vibe. My friend said "hello!" upon closing the door and we stood there and looked around while it was raining out. I just thought of every epic scene in a horror movie LOL They had an array of apples available. I learned today what a bushel and peck are. They also offer apple cider, bread, candy apples and cookies. Basically you pick the apples you want either bushel or peck and leave your money in”

“I stopped by to buy a bag of apples at this orchard — the sign clearly said self-service, so I paid in the box and left. A staff lady (who by the way was inside the shop the whole time not paying any attention or giving me guidance) later chased me down, first asking for the paper basket back (which was fine I didnt know I couldnt take it with me) but then accusingly asked if I paid. Very rude and insulting. I followed your instructions and did the honest thing. Don’t leave a self service box if you are going to accuse your customers of not paying.”
