What you can pick

In October, check what’s currently ripe before you go. Seasons below are typical windows for Wisconsin, not a guarantee for this exact farm.

Before you go

A short checklist so the trip feels easy — especially helpful for first-time u-pick visits in Wisconsin.

  • Bring closed-toe shoes, sun protection, water, and containers unless the farm supplies them.
  • Call or check the website for today’s picking conditions — mud, rain, and sold-out fields are common.
  • Arrive earlier in the day for cooler weather and better selection during peak weekends.
  • Cash still helps at smaller stands even when cards are accepted.

“We have never been to this family owned country market in Franksville. It's located just off Hwy 36 (Loomis) and Cape Rd. We came for their sunflower harvest, which was a GREAT bargain. $ 5 for a HUGE bag of sunflower heads that you go to the field and cut yourself. We ended up with 23 huge sunflower heads for seeds to roast and some to plant next spring. They also have a play area for kids, a caramel apple station, candles, jams/jellies, pumpkins, and gourds. I was able to get my daughter's wheelchair through the sunflower patch trails, but it took some muscle.”

“Beautiful day for apple (and pear!) picking here. Usually always go to the “big name” farms, but this one was so much better! Less crowded and had everything we were looking to do for the day with our little one. Many varieties of apple to pick from, and they had a little store with pies, apple cider donuts (best we ever had!), and apple cider! Lots of other typical small shop items to purchase as well. We would definitely come back!”

“Wonderful apple/pear/and sunflower picking! We loved this locally run place, with good prices and a very child friendly environment. There are two store on the property, an artisan store was a cute little room with antiques and locally made items, and the main store you go to purchase your picking bags, inside they also have a small food stand that offered caramel apples with many types/options and a delicious honey lemonade.”

“My family loves Old Homestead! New things to try this year in the kids area, and we love the yummy food in the bakery. They have different events every week, and prices are most affordable in the area. Definitely well worth a visit or more every fall!”

“This was the first time I had stopped there. And we LOVE it. A small Orchard with great pri ea and a wide selection of apples. There is also a little store to buy jellys and jams pickels and more. Will be going quite a few times this fall season”

“Wonderful experience with fun for the whole family. Old Homestead is sure to keep your family busy with the various activities they have to offer. Bee sure to visit their other location to pick your own wild flower bouquet.”

“We came here as a family and we're pleasantly surprised! A more intimate orchard, which was great with a new born! There are events almost every weekend in the fall. We will be coming back next year.”

“Friendly people, delicious apples ($12 for a 1/2 peck bag), pony rides and goats too. Our toddler had a wonderful time! The only suggestion would be to have some more savory (non sweet) options in the Cafe, and to have more attractions for older kids.”
